A 17- year old high school student that attends Greeley Central high school was arrested Wednesday afternoon after ammunition and a handgun were found in the student’s backpack.
According to the Weld County District 6, the high school’s administration was contacted around 7 a.m. because of suspicions that kids were smoking marijuana on campus.
According to 9NEWS, security guards saw the group of boys that were suspected of smoking marijuana walking away from the school. They were taken to the office, where their backpacks were searched due to the allegation they were accused for, and in one of the students bags they found ammunition and an unloaded .38 caliber automatic handgun
“This kind of reminds me of the time the whole school had to evacuate the the building when that kid had suspicious powders in his backpack i was so scared there is no telling where those kids felt,” said junior Brittani Harper.
According to 9NEWS the police were called and responded fast to arrest the student. They are not releasing the teens identity, but he was booked into Platte Valley Youth Detention Center. The exact charges that were brought upon the teen will ultimately be up to the District Attorney to decide.
There were no threats made against the schools, and there were no reasons for the authorities to think that the students were in any any danger.
“What I find is the scariest about this whole situation is yeah, he had a gun, but why did he bring it to school? Its crazy because nowadays things like that happen all the time. Unfortunately, that’s just the world we live in,” said junior Lynsey Robertson.
