State Champs
Bet you didn’t know we have four state champion gymnasts walking around Smoky Hill
I was walking to class with one of my friends a few days after my gymnastics team won state. When I told her that Smoky Hill gymnastics won the state competition, she told me that she didn’t even know we had a gymnastics team. She wasn’t completely out of place only because it’s technically not the Smoky hill’s gymnastics team, but the Overland gymnastics team. The only thing is, four Smoky Hill students are on Overlands gymnastics team, and not once did I get a single congratulations for winning the state competition. I think that the gymnastics team should get a little bit more recognition for their accomplishments.
Winning the state competition was a big deal. The season had not been the best for the Overland gymnastics team until the last competition where not only did we step up our game a little, but we managed to win the title 5a gymnastics team champions. We won the competition with a score of 187.950. Gymnast were even invited to attend the Overland pep assembly where we were awarded with roses and medals.
There is an obvious solution to this problem, and that is rather than planning the Smoky Hill Pep rally on the same day as Overlands pep rally, have them on different days so the gymnasts can be recognized by their home school, and their home gymnastics team. It’s an easy solution to put in place, and hopefully if win state next season, we can put the solution into action.
