According to Jonathan O’Callaghan for MailOnline, the leader of Google’s self-driving car project wrote in a web post all the accidents have been minor ‘light damage, no injuries and happened over 1.7 million miles in which either the car or a person required to be behind the wheel was driving. He also admitted to more prangs.
“When i was taking my diving class a few months ago my teacher was telling us about how it would be a bad idea to get one of these cars because it will make people lazy and think they don’t have to do any work because the cars doing all the work,”said Sophomore Roxanne Crews
According to Jerry Hirsch and Joseph Serna, over the 6 years that have past since starting the project, there have been only 11 minor accidents. Not once was the self driving car the cause of the accident.
According to Jerry Hirsch and Joseph Serna, the DMV told Consumer Watchdog that self-driving vehicle accident reports are confidential and declined to release them. However, the Associated Press reported details about the four crashes Monday. Google and Delphi both admitted to minor crashes but said that they were not at fault for them.
According to Hirsch and Serna, there are already vehicles with varying levels of self-driving capability including single-lane highway driving, valet parking, and maneuvering in traffic jams are starting to reach dealer showrooms this year and next.
“I was actually interested in getting one of these cars but hearing all of this kind of makes me think twice,” said sophomore Hira Davis
Only four states such as California, Florida, Michigan, and Nevada are regulating the research of development testing of automated vehicles for now .
