Next week, Smoky Hill will be honoring America’s veterans by participating in a district-wide celebration, including a Military Order of the Purple Heart Presentation. “They will share stories and information on the Order of the Purple Heart,” the principal’s secretary Beverly Rideout said.

The tribute, which takes place for the whole of next week, allows students to see another side of our community and other career options as well as a veterans’ memorabilia display. “I think it is a vital part of our school system,” junior Haley Jacelon said, “It shows that it is okay to join the military instead of going to college.”

The Military Order of the Purple Heart presentation will take place on Wednesday, November 13 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., in the Auditorium. This will be open to community members as well as students.

Students are also writing cards to soldiers and veterans in their English classes as well as entering an essay contest.
