Norovirus Outbreak at Chipotle Restaurant
Boston School Students get Sick From Eating Chipotle
December 10, 2015
The famous Chipotle restaurant chain is facing backlash after 120 Boston students became sick after eating at one of the chain’s restaurants in Boston Mon, Nov. 7. Test results after the incident show that students came down with Norovirus ( the most common cause of gastrointestinal in the country) when students acquired diarrhea, and vomiting symptoms.
¨Well it’s kinda scary but I think I might still eat it once in a blue moon,¨ junior Sang Dao said.
Earlier in the year, the restaurant chain was linked to E. coli outbreaks in nine states throughout the country. Chipotle restaurants in Minnesota, California, New York, and Ohio where E.coli was reported had the chain’s restaurants shut down and extensively cleaned.
The Cleveland Circle restaurant where the students consumed the food from, was closed shortly after. Other Chipotle restaurants in Boston do not plan on shutting down any stores saying that this case is not related to any of the other E. coli cases that happened earlier in the year.
According to nbcnews.com, health officials ordered that the restaurant close after an inspection showed the chicken (used to make tacos, burritos, and other items of their menu, was kept at a low temperature, and an employee was working while sick.
With cases popping up all over the country, the restaurant chain has been forced to raise prices as they lose stockholders and customers in fear that another case may pop up somewhere else in the country.
¨For now I will probably just go to Qdoba instead,” Dao said.
