As many students with smartphones may know, there was a recent update for snapchat that discontinued the ability to see other peoples best friends, but added a new portion to the app that lets you stay connected with some of your favorite news websites.

The update came out January 27 2015. Before the update, users were allowed all of the same abilities, being able to send direct messages, take videos, and post photos on their stories, but no longer can someone look at another users best friends. According to inkingsnews.com, the ability to view best friends caused one too many issues. Riley Thrush, the everyday snapchat user said, “We all check up if our best friends have us as best friends too, who our boyfriends have, and our crushes.”

After using both the old snapcat and the new snapchat, I got to see the how they differ. My final conclusion is, the makers are going in the correct direction, but they still have a lot of work to do. When I used snapchat before I found myself looking at my friends best friends more and more often, and I didn’t like that, so I am glad they took best friends away. The negative side of the update I would have to say is how unorganized it is. With the old version I knew exactly where everything was, and how to get there, but with the new version everything has been misplaced, and now certain things are too hard to find.

Overall, the update in my opinion was necessary, and a good idea, but could really use some tweaking.
