Modern Family Dives Into Technology
Modern Family Uses Technology to Make Their Entire Show
Kyna Fitzpatrick
Wednesday, Feb. 25, the Emmy award winning ABC sitcom, Modern Family, video taped their 30 minute show entirely using Apple products and social media apps and sites. The show featured devices from Apple that ranged from iPads, iPhones, and Macbook Airs that the actors used during the show. Even showing how the products can help a person multi task as they are being used. The show also used social media accounts like Facetime, and Facebook.
The episode was called Connection Lost. During the episode, Claire (played by actress Julie Bowen) is trying to find her daughter, Haley (played by actress Sarah Hyland), after she misunderstands a Facebook post. During the show, Claire contacts members of the family to see if they know where Haley is and who she has run off with.
The show, at first, seemed like a big commercial for Apple and their products. With all the cast members using one of Apple’s devices, it sent out the message that people should go and buy the devices that the stars were using from Apple. Facebook also got some time in the spotlight during the episode when Claire was going through Haley’s account.
As the show goes further into the story, it becomes very interesting to watch as the plot unfolds. It is very captivating to see how the producers and cast members worked together
to create an entire episode using only Apple products and social media apps and sites. All of was done while still keeping the comedy aspect and making sure that it meet televsion guidelines. At times during the show, the story can be a little hard to follow when the cast members are jumping from device to device to communicate with the other members.
Overall, the cast and producers did a really good job making sure that they told a really good story using all of the technology and devices, catering to all audiences, and adding comedy to tell a really nice story. I would give this episode of Modern Family a rating of five stars.
