Lockdown Drills

Smoky Hill High School Practicing Lockdown Drills

In March, Smoky Hill High School will be practicing lockdowns to keep the students and the school safe. This will be held with the assistance of the Aurora Police Department.

Both the date and time will be spontaneous. The Aurora Police Department scheduled this drill to obtain feedback and information about the safety and practices of lockdowns.

Emails and phone calls were sent to parents clarifying that there will be one or more lockdown practices at SHHS. “ I think it is very important to practice these drills so we know what to do when there is a real lockdown,” freshman Ceranda Kucey said.

During the drills teachers will send students to a certain part of the class and have them stay there until an announcement comes on the speakers allowing the students to go back to their normal activity.

There are also Secure Perimeters that might be practiced. Secure Perimeter is where students are not allowed to leave the school but yet are able to leave their classrooms to use the restrooms and go to their lockers.
