JV Poms
New team next season
March 27, 2016
Next year for Smoky Poms will be more different and efficient due to a new addition. Poms has decided to make a JV team. Upcoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors must at least have been at smoky for 1 semester to join the JV team next season.
“JV teams are meant to introduce and prepare dancers for the varsity skill levels. So we will have a better program overall that trains dancers better,” said Freshman Jael mallory, a student on Varsity Poms. Every school needs a JV team but because of what happened this past season there was only varsity.
This season there was a lack of student tryouts for Poms. Only 12 tried out during spring leaving six members on each team. During the fall there were more tryouts but still not enough. “Getting the word out, and having a fresh start is a way to prevent what happened last time. This is going to be a new season with new coaches and we’re promoting that as much as possible,” Mallory said.
“There’s a new coach this year, if you start to attend the meetings or clinics they will probably give a list of skills wanted for JV level and varsity,” said Mallory. Attending the meetings will help you prepare for a tryout.
Poms usually meets about four times a week depending on game schedules and the coaches schedule. For more information go to activities.
