Incoming Freshman Check Out Smoky Hill
January 13, 2016
Incoming Freshman Parent Information Night will be held Thurs., Jan. 14, 6:30p.m. – 8:15p.m. in the Auditorium.
The Smoky Hill High School website states that if you are a parent of a prospective International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) student, you are required to attend the mandatory parent session at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. The general session begins at 6:30p.m. in the Auditorium.
“We will be covering everything about IB,” IB assistant, Veena Kumar said. “What IB is about, what the difference is between IB and AP, what the IB requirements are, and when the IB application is due.”
Following this presentation, coordinators from the academic areas and special programs will present informational sessions in specific areas throughout the building. In addition, each department will have an information table in the activities hallway. Counselors will also be available throughout the evening to answer questions, according to the Smoky Hill High School website.
“We will also be covering how students that don’t live in the Smoky Hill area can still be apart of IB, and the forms that they will need to fill out in order for that to happen” Veena Kumar said.
The Smoky Hill High School website stated that coaches and sponsors from our athletic teams and co-curricular clubs will be available in the West Gym to provide information and answer questions regarding our programs. Throughout the evening, Student Ambassadors will conduct tours of Smoky Hill High School, and the Administrative Team will be available to meet with you and answer any questions.
Although the meeting has been stated as mandatory, if parents are not able to attend “they can call in, or all the information will be on our website if they have any questions” Veena Kumar said.
