“How to Be Single” Review

Nothing like a “Chick Flick”

Nafees Abidi, Staffer

Although “How to Be Single” is a comedy, it is not an appropriate movie for minors. This is a romantic comedy about the dating adventures of young people in the big city and feels like it consists of several puzzle pieces scattered everywhere and towards the end the pieces come together like a puzzle is complete. While watching the movie I realized it is similar to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, and “Sex and the City”; which declared that this is a very repetitive topic used in entertainment.

After four years of college, Alice (Dakota Johnson) decides she needs a break from her long-term boyfriend Josh.  She decided to move to New York and take a job as a Paralegal. Robin (Rebel Wilson) is giving her a tour of the city since shes new. She is a fun-loving, wild co-worker who enjoys partying and one-night stands. With Robin as her free guide, Alice can now learn how to get free drinks, meet men, and enjoy the single lifestyle, and she is loving it.

“My character Alice has always been a little bit co-dependent,” Dakota Johnson said in her live Interview with Kelly and Michael.

Rebel Wilson plays Johnson’s best friend, and she brings her unique energy to everything. Wilson is actually an incredible comedian, who featured in many movies in the past year, but, more often than not, she is more distracting than funny.  Wilson plays her role so broadly that it clashes with the serious things happening around her, and it makes the viewer aggravated on why she is the way she is.

“In real life I don’t get smashed that much but my character in the move does every night. I kind of had to be up in the clubs and have that drunk energy all the time. The shoot was for about 6 weeks,” Rebel Wilson said in her live Interview with Kelly and Michael.
