Every year all the themes for home coming week are different and let students dress up as different characters from movies or t.v shows, or dress up for a cause that focuses on world awareness. The whole week is dedicated for students to dress up and put their creativity to work. It all leads up to a Pep Assembly on Oct,10,2014 and the Homecoming dance on Oct, 11, 2014.

Today Oct, 9, 2014 was grade dress up day for Smoky Hill’s homecoming week. Each grade had to dress up as a different theme. Freshman were fashion disaster, Sophomores were superheros, Juniors were a day at the beach, and Seniors dressed up in togas. Homecoming week will lead to the dance this Saturday as well.

Sophomore Claire Owens, participated in the class dress up day and decided to dress up in a red t-shirt and that had a lightning bolt that resembled the the superhero the Flash. “This was the only Superhero shirt I owned, and it used to be my dads.” Owen said.

The Flash is a character produced by DC comics and is created by Gardner fox and Henry Lampert. He is often called the Fastest Man Alive and used to appear in the Flash Comics. There are four main characters in the comics Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West, and Bart Allen. All of the characters including the Flash main superpowers are super speed which makes them able to run fast, use any superhuman reflexes, and violate the laws of physics.

There was a total of three comics so far in the series. There was also a tv show on the character in the late 1990’s starring the four superheros.“ I didn’t want to dress up with a group of people” Owens said, “ So I decided to dress up on my own.”
Friday students are to dress up to represent their class colors for the Pep Assembly.
