What is your full name? Jael Mallory
What made you decide to go to Smoky Hill?
“Smoky Hill’s IB program and diversity within the school made me decide to go here,” Jael said. “I’m also really interested in student government, and taking a leadership role at this school. I really love being at Smoky and the teachers here are amazing and super helpful.”
Are you in any school activities academically or physically and how do you feel about them?
Tell us a story about why you joined.
“This school year, I have been involved in Poms, Key Club, and dance Showcase. The reason why I joined Key Club was because I originally, wanted to be a member of NHS. However, the club in not for freshman. So I decided to join Key Club which is related to NHS community service wise. Key Club is for all students,” Jael said. “Poms was something I was always interested in because I love dancing and wanted dancing to tie in with my school too. And dance showcase of course is also related to my dancing.”
How are your grades?
“My grades are good. I have a 4.0 GPA. My parents have really high standards for me and expect me to achieve the best grades I can possibly get. Balancing my after school activities and grades can be difficult but I manage,” Jael said.
Are you getting used to school yet?
“I am partially used to this school now. Transferring into the CCSD was uneasy but I love it now. My old district wasn’t as advanced and didn’t have as many resources as Smoky does,” Jael said.
What is your personal life like?
“I live with my parents and older brother in Denver,” Jael said, “I take dance very seriously and attend dance classes at least seven hours a week. Dancing is something that is a big part in my life and to me it means everything.”
How do you help around the community?
“I am involved with my church and its’ youth group. I additionally do childcare at the church for volunteer hours or for work,” Jael said.
What has Smoky Hill taught you?
“Smoky Hill has taught me that the more that you are involved in occurrences around you, the more fun you will in your high school career,” Jael said. “It has also taught me to make friends and be more involved in my community and interact more with the people around me.”
How did you expect high school to be and how was it?
“I expected it to be very difficult academic wise, but the staff here at Smoky is very supportive and make it possible for you to succeed. The students are honestly really nice. On the first day of school I was completely lost and didn’t know where to go and this senior girl helped me find my class,” Jael said.
Do you ever get picked on by other classmen?
“Sometimes, its usually with my close group of friends. But overall no,” Jael said.
Give stories about what has happen to you in highschool?
“I have had very busy hours here at the school. During poms season I have practically been stuck at the school for 12 hours. Same with dance showcase and its rehearsals,” Jael said.
Do you feel experienced in high school now?
“I do feel experienced. I have gotten a hang of things and am doing well at juggling activities,” Jael said.
How important is it to fit in for you?
“It is not important to me. I know who I am and what I want to do with my life. I want to surround myself with people who share the same interests as me rather than trying to fit in,”Jael said.
