Doomsday Has Been Delayed
Microsoft Delays Windows XP Antivirus Support Shutdown
The antivirus updating system “doomsday” for Windows XP has been delayed. While the last set of system operating patches and updates for XP was released April 8 2014, Microsoft announced that it will continue to release updates and new signatures for the antivirus software until mid-2015.
“At first I really didn’t understand what Doomsday was about, and then I heard a commercial about it on the radio,” senior Gabi Rosario said. “It amazes me how long Windows XP has been around.”
Some antivirus creators are promising updates for Windows XP up until 2017. Microsoft warns that even with the up-to-date antivirus Windows XP users may not be completely protected.
“I don’t think i’m going to be affected by [doomsday]. I have Windows 7, and i’m going to be upgrading to Windows 8 soon, but it definitely puts things into perspective,” Rosario said.
Windows XP is a 12-year-old operating system that is now considered under high risk, and users are urged to upgrade.
