Dance company is working hard on their performances for dance showcase
April 27, 2016
Dance Showcase is right around the corner May 13-14 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. both days in the Smoky Hill Auditorium.
For students who are new to Smoky or generally don’t know, every year Smoky Hill’s dance club members – also known as the Dance Company – and dance class members choreograph multiple dance routines based off of a certain theme. This years theme is Mythology, where students are doing dances that are focused on stories and different legends.
Chris Holguin, a junior at Smoky Hill is getting ready to perform at Dance Showcase. He has been attending after-school rehearsals, and the occasional Saturday rehearsal to prepare.
Holguin is in four different dances this year. “We choreograph a variety of different pieces, which can be student pieces or Mrs.Wood [Dance teacher and club sponsor] can choreograph a piece.” Holguin said.
Normally, members of Dance Company create routines in which anyone can audition. If a student passes the audition, they can then choreograph their own piece, but they must be a part of a dance lead by someone in Dance Company first.
Auditions for Dance Showcase have already taken place, but make sure to stop by to watch it. Tickets are $5 for students and 8$ for adults.
