Charlie Brown Celebrates a 50 Year Anniversary

¨A Charlie Brown Christmas¨ special aired Mon, Nov. 30., on ABC at 8/7 central marking the 50th Anniversary of the episode. Monday night’s special was called “It’s your 50th Charlie Brown,” was full of stars and was hosted by Kristen Bell.
“We usually watch the Charlie Brown season shows every year and around Christmas we watch the Christmas special,” freshman Zarainy Dewberry said.
According to usatoday.com “A Charlie Brown Christmas” first aired on Dec. 9, 1965, on CBS but was adopted by ABC in the 2000s. The show was created 15 years after the first “Peanuts” comic was made when Coca Cola asked them about broadcasting the idea on television. The special also went through the history of how the Christmas special came to be and what it took to make the show.
The event featured live performances by Vince Guaraldi, Kristen Chenoweth who sang “Happiness” from the “Peanuts Broadway hit, and Glee star Matthew Morrison who sang an original song called “Just Like Me. Other musical guest will also be performing throughout the show like the Pentatonix, Sarah McLachlan, Boyz II Men and The All-American Boy Chorus, and David Benoit.
“I wasn’t able to see the show last night but I did go see the Peanuts movie and I loved it,” Dewberry said.
The special also paid tribute to musician Vince Guaraldi who was not originally into Jazz music but whose music was added into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.
President Obama and Michelle Obama also made an appearance on the show.
