Battleborn Review
May 16, 2016
Battleborn was released May 3 by Gearbox Software, and I have been playing it nonstop ever since. For those who are unaware, Battleborn is an online first-person shooter that takes place in a futuristic world. Each character that can be played as has completely different moves and drastically different ranges.
Right from the beginning I loved this game’s style. It’s like a comic book meets the Gorillaz music video, and it is incredibly easy to lose countless hours to the real world as you slip further and further into the video game.
Personally, some of the most fun I’ve had playing this game was exploring the different characters. Each one has a different style of attack, and so getting used to new moves can be a little tricky, but I enjoy finding a character that fits my button-mashing perfectly. Once I unlocked all of the characters however, the game lost some of this novelty and the only thing that I had to look forward to was another boss fight.
Speaking of which, if you are a gamer that does not enjoy boss fights, but instead prefers to just run around in sandbox mode, I think it is safe to say that this game may not be for you. This game is exceptionally challenging, and requires a decent amount of strategizing when it comes to what range you want your character to have, as well as the moves that you use on the enemies.
While it does have an online option, I would greatly recommend playing with a friend instead. Once online, the game becomes a little laggy and working with someone long distance to complete a goal is much harder than working with someone who is sitting next to you, and the added banter makes it all the more fun.
Overall, this is a really fun game. It is good for a challenge, and the characters you unlock gives players reachable goals that are fun to have once you get there. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys having a game that makes you work for your objectives, as well as someone who enjoys using a large range of characters.
