Senior Gaby Antunez won Aspire Athlete of the Week. The Aspire Athlete of the Week is a program created by Aspire Beverage Company to reward student athletes like Antunez . This program recognizes students who are both athletic, and have great academic qualities.
“Well I hadn’t found out until one of my best friends texted me and she sent me a link to the voting page, and that is how I found out,” Antunez said, “I had a bunch of people just texting me, and so that got really exciting.”
According to aspirebeverages.com, three semi-finalists are nominated. Voting will be held online and open to whomever would like to vote. The finalist will be determined according to who has the most votes.
“I am really happy, I am so happy and like my swim team and some of my best friends and my parents were like really supportive throughout the whole thing and they helped spread the word so I’m just really happy and they’re really happy and I feel like it kind of unified us in some way because I could’ve never done it without them and they know that,” Antunez said.
School staff and coaches are able to nominate students anytime they would like. The swim coach Scott Cohen nominated Gaby Antunez for this award.
“Thanks to everyone that voted for me. It really means a lot.It is kind of showing that my hard work is paying off and that recognition is really good because like I worked really hard in the pool every day and to have that be recognized by not only my school but Denver and different cities in Colorado it just makes me really happy,” Antunez said.
