ACT make-up
Bringing the ACT to students
April 21, 2016
The ACT State and District Test is a big deal to juniors due to the fact it is a free college test. The initial test date was April 19, but if missed, don’t worry because the ACT make-up day is May 3.
“The state of Colorado requires that all 11th graders take the test. Most of them want to take the test. We only had 11 juniors who did not report yesterday,” Assistant Principal Karen Adler said.
Smoky Hill is in the process of pulling the information on those 11 students, and sending them an email regarding the information of the make-up test.
“There are no specific requirements. Any kid who missed the test has the opportunity to make it up on May 3. Now the disadvantage is that they have to miss class to make up the test, although they are excused from their classes,” Adler said.
The ACT make-up will be from 7:10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., then the students will have to report back to class. Since it is a state test parents do have the option to opt their students from taking the ACT. If students chose not to take the test, Smoky Hill has to report their test to the state as a invalidation.
“We honor if a student wants to opt out, no penalty to us and no penalty to the kid. The word invalidation sounds scary but it just means that the student didn’t take the test. The thing that is unique about the ACT is that most kids don’t opt out,” Adler said.
