A Look Into 21st Century Learning
Recently, Smoky Hill bought chromebooks for the student body, “The chromebooks were purchased by the district from the money that was received from the Bond budget election (The Cherry Creek School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution calling for a bond and budget election on Nov. 6, 2012, the budget election would provide $25 million for operating expenses) last year and so they alleged so many chromebooks to different schools in the district, high schools were given a 2 to 1 ratio, so the amount of chromebooks here is about half as our population of students.” Mr. Hanson said.
The main purpose of the chromebooks is to incorporate modern learning techniques into everyday class work, “It’s to transform classrooms because were trying to keep up with 21st century learning,” Mr. Hanson said, “what kids have access to when they leave the school is tremendous and schools are trying to keep with that.”
This addition to Smoky’s technology is every beneficial, Mr. Ady has already been integrating the chromebooks into his teaching, “The biggest benefit is that it brings technology into more students’ hands. Students today are growing up in a world where they’ve never known a world without computers, it’s the way they’re used to doing things.”
“Chromebooks are making every student college ready,” Mr. Ady said. “I think that if public education is going to continue to be relevant we have to reflect the world that is actually out there. The world you guys are going to be experiencing in college, most of the work you’re going to be doing in college is going to be online. You’ll actually have classes, but you’ll be submitting everything online so I think we need to reflect that as well”
