The Importance of Watching The News

Informed and in the loop

T'Gan Maxey, Staffer

Every day after school, I come home and do the same thing. I watch the news. I turn to the BBC News channel – which starts at 5 P.M. – and I watch that for a half hour. Then, from 5:30 P.M.  to 6 P.M. I watch the CBS News. After 6,I mostly do nothing but sit around. Then at 9 o’clock I start watching the news again, getting a recap of all of the day’s events and what is coming up in the week.

Some may ask why I spend so much time watching the news when I could be doing better things with my time. The reason I watch the news is because I feel it is every person’s right to be informed on what is going on around the world.

Throughout the day, I am always looking at news articles and headlines. Sometimes for fun, and sometimes just to make sure I am caught up on current events.

Being informed on the things going on around the world may seem boring or sad because of all of the horrible things going on, but it is better to informed them not informed. The pro of watching the news is you will know that it is coming from a professional whose job it is to get the news right. Also news agencies are responsible for supplying us with local and worldwide news.

If you are someone who thinks that you don’t have time to check the news you are mistaken. There are plenty of ways to get news alerts throughout the day. There are apps that can provide you with news updates like: CNN, FOX News, NBC News. Also there are newspapers that have apps like: The Denver Post, The New York Times.

Watching or reading the news can be simple and easy, and is a great way of staying in the loop.
