Summer Jobs

Work for something you love.

Kailen Theel, Staffer

As the school year winds down, and summer comes around the corner, students struggle to find activities to occupy themselves. Jobs are great for teens who love to spend money (but don’t have it), need something to do, and have a great work ethic.

The age required for different jobs vary. Some jobs allow 14 year olds, but require a workers permit. Getting a workers permit is easy, “Show me your I.D., and I’ll print it out for you” said Kelly DiBlasi, a counseling assistant. Getting a job at 14 years old is easy, because all you have to do is go to the counseling office and talk to Mrs. DiBlasi.

Most students have jobs at Smoky Hill. One student, Marilyn Quijada, a senior who works at Target, “I work because I have to help around with the family.” Quijada has worked at Target for six months. She worked at Papa Murphy’s prior to working at Target.

One job is to watch a dog from home. The schedule is flexible, so work when wanted, and pays up to 1,000 dollars a month. All you need is to create an account for rover. If you are interested, go to Rover.com. Rover is a dog walking, dog watching, and dog day-care. Another job is a Snack bar worker for ink! Coffee Company. The job pays $10.20 to $13.20 an hour. To get the job you must be 18 years of age and at least one year of customer service. Also you must have a high school diploma. The job offers many benefits such as a 401K after six months, flexible schedules, and employee discounts and free coffee.

When the summer comes and there is nothing to do, work for a job that is enjoyable. Some jobs pay more than others, but can pay around 1,000 dollars a month. For more jobs and information go to indeed.com.
