SAGA, Sexuality and Gender Acceptance, is a club that happens every Tuesday from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in rooms 1-306. The club is run by Ms. Hoegh and is open to anybody who wants to express themselves in an inclusive environment.

“It’s a place where people could just come and be themselves,” club sponsor Miss Hoegh said. “It’s not just about your sexuality, it can also be about your gender, as well.”

The club is in the process of being more active in school-wide activities.

“World Awareness day is March 10 and 11,” Hoegh said. “We intend to apply and hope to get in.”

SAGA is also looking at bigger goals. The club wishes to teach others about what it stands for.

“We’re hoping to be able to eventually do training with faculty and have some of our members show up at a professional development day for teachers and teach them about anything that our members feel like teachers should know.” Hoegh said.

People looking for a community should check out SAGA.

“I feel like the club is great for socializing and meeting people in the LGBTQIA+ community,” Williams said.

It is not necessary to know other members before joining.

“We do introductions at the beginning of every meeting, stating preferred names and pronouns,” Clemans said. “We socialize, creating a safe space where everyone is accepted, but, if someone wants to talk/ask questions, a small group will break off and talk about the topic.”

SAGA is home to an open-minded community.

“I would recommend SAGA to anyone who can’t express themselves normally, wants to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community, or just wants to find a group that they can just talk to,” Clemans said.

The club’s main goal is to be a safe place for people who have yet to figure themselves out.

“It’s a launchpad for kids to start and then once you feel ready to go out into the world and you know, come out or whatever it is, then we’re here to support you and then when you go out into the world and be yourself and that’s kind of the overall dream.” Hoegh said.
