Smoky Hill Buffaloes Vrs. Wasatch Academy Tigers Recap

Turnovers Change Games

Smoky Hill Buffaloes basketball  lose 50 to 72 in a hard fought game against the Wasatch Academy Tigers. The Tigers played a simple man defense letting their size and length give the Buffaloes a tough time. The Buffaloes got beat off entirely too many turnovers, being outrebounded, and just missing open shots. It wasn’t the best game I’ve seen the Buffaloes play, but they will bounce back.

The Buffaloes played with a lot of heart and hustle, but Wasatch had so many easy fastbreak layups and dunks off turnovers that it killed the Buffs in the long run. Assistant Varsity Coach Luther Dickens said, some highlights of the game were competing all the way throughout the game, because it is easy to give up against a team with the talent the Tigers when they are pulling away. He also said, some lowlights in the game were just starting off slow, giving up offensive rebounds and putbacks leading to the early lead Wasatch had in the first quarter.

Coach Dickens also spoke on star player Kenny Foster missing due to injury, saying, “ Kenny could have impacted this game tremendously tonight. He is a great player that scores about 18 points a night. Him not being able to play really hurt us, not only because of his ability to score, but also because we lost his leadership and size which could’ve helped a lot too. With him playing I believe a 20 point deficit would have changed to a close game that could have possibly ended differently than tonight.”

The Buffaloe’s coaching staff overall are extremely proud of their players for fighting against a team of Wasatch’s caliber. They are especially proud of their two big men John Harge and William Becker who scraped inside with the 7 foot and 6 foot 10 Wasatch big men. Wasatch now moves to 7-0 and the Buffs are looking to bounce back with what would be a big win tomorrow night .
