Smoky Hill United for Africa, SHUFA, is a club that raises money to provide people in Africa with food, clothing, and education. The club, which meets every red Thursday in room ll-313, discusses and plans events to raise money.

Recently SHUFA participated in the Nuba Water Project that helps people raise money to build wells for Sudan.

The 5k Walk for Sudan which raised $769 for building wells, is a part of the Nuba Water Project, but the Walk is what SHUFA members mostly focused on. “The Walk for Sudan was started by Eaglecrest AVID students,” said Laura Buddington, sponsor of the club.

Students were able to experience how people got water in Sudan. “I felt good and connected to the people in Sudan,” said Taylor Phillips-Jones.

The money raised is also used to purchase water purifying drops.

Additionally, the SHUFA club is gathering school supplies to send to Africa through a project called Supplying Africa.

Although the club mainly focuses on Sudan and Uganda, they also help other countries in Africa by teaming up with the Girl Up club.
