Shatter Me: Lindsey Stirling

A review of Lindsey Stirling’s violin album

M2212031

Many consider the violin to be a classical instrument; something to be played during recitals or in orchestras to Beethoven or another classical composer. However, Lindsey Stirling reinvented the violin in her new album, Shatter Me. A combination of hip hop and dubstep, she shows off exactly what the violin can really do.

Her album is named after her song, Shatter Me, in which Lzzy Hale, a YouTube singer, sings. Combine her beautiful singing voice and Stirling’s melodic violin, this song truly captures the listener’s attention.

My favorite song in this album is her original dubstep violin song, Heist. The music starts out purely dubstep with no instrument accompanying it. However, once you get about ten seconds into the song, you are introduced to a fast pace, hip hop, exciting violin. I was thoroughly blown away and listened to the song again and again. This song deserves six out of five stars.

Stirling includes music that she has performed online on her YouTube channel, Lindsey Stirling. Her original song, Master of Tides, was performed in a mall area as a “surprise show.” This specific song, with no lyrics, is purely instrumental with a definite modern flare. This brought something new to the instrumental section of music.

Combining a classical instrument with modern music creates a memorable album that is sure to entertain anyone who loves any kind of music. From her lyrical song, Shatter Me, to her dubstep country song, Roundtable Rival, there is something for everyone. I give her album five out of five stars.
