Parent Informational Meeting

Incoming Freshman information night tonight!

Parent+Informational+Meeting

Kailen Theel, Staffer

Every eighth grader from Laredo or Horizon planning on going to Smoky Hill is invited to attend the parent information meeting in January. Most high school students from Smoky went to this when they were eighth graders, and it was a chance for them to get to the options Smoky Hill has to offer for incoming Freshmen.

The first thing that they we will be providing is the IB MYP presentation to help the eighth graders decide if that is something they want to do for the next four years and inform them about the electives and programs for IB. After the IB MYP presentation is the general session, they talk about the rest of the night and what the school has to offer for the many different personalities that enter the school. After the parents leave the auditorium, they head to the gym for the activities fair. Families can learn about clubs and sports for their interests. Later in the night there is a breakout session where they can walk around the school, and get to know the layout of it.

High school students probably don’t think twice about the day, but it is important that high school students help the eighth grade students navigate the building, participate in their club, or even giving them information about what is happening at the current moment.

This isn’t some magical night, but it helps to inform students about the programs, clubs, activities, and classes that Smoky Hill has to offer to every students so that they are happy and successful while they are here at the home of the Buffs.
