Wednesday 10, Smoky Hill’s National Honor Society inducted 99 new members at the induction ceremony. The National Honor Society (NHS) finds/recruits students based on eligibility requirements, students that have shown qualities of all four pillars: character, scholarship, leadership and service. Inductees also get the opportunity to foster, and facilitate those talents and take them further. NHS has opportunities for students to lead projects that do a little bit more to expand their leadership skills.

Mrs. Cross and Mr. Paricio are the coordinators of NHS, “We try to make sure we’re supporting good decisions with their character. Also, we give students the chance to reach out to other students and be a good model or mentor for others. I think that the biggest impact or biggest value is that we take students that are showing national abilities in those areas and we’re taking them further, so that they’re truly going to be stronger students and better community members once they leave here,” Cross said

In order to be in NHS students must have an accumilative weighted GPA of 3.75 or higher, “That’s what we initially look for, grades based on GPA. Then, part of the application is students writing about experiences that they’ve had as a leader already, just to show that they have a history of being a leader or having some service experience of something thats apart of who they are,” Cross said. “It’s not just about someone who’s just entirely book smart but also is well rounded. Part of the application process is getting facility to vouch for them and support somebody who’s a good character.
