Sunday, March 13,Colorado’s time will spring ahead one hour at 2am for the beginning of Daylight Savings Time (DST). Most smartphones, computers, tablets and other digital devices will change the time automatically. However, if you use an analog alarm be sure to change the time one hour ahead tomorrow.

“Daylight Savings Time helps me gain an extra hour of daylight to play with my four year old brother,” junior Gabrielle Kirk said.

DST is when time will “spring forward” an hour. This means losing an hour of sleep, but gaining an hour of daylight as the warmer seasons approaches. William Willet was the first to come up with the idea of daylight savings but was unsuccessful when he proposed it to the British parliament in 1908. When Germany heard of his proposal, they enacted it during World War 1 in 1915. Later the British followed Germany along with other countries.

By 1918, the United States followed Germany and established The Standard Time ACT for time zones and daylight saving. DST is now employed in about 70 countries around the world. Daylight savings time will return to standard time on the first Sunday in November.
