The “School delay gods” have answered your prayers and yelps, so rest, sit back, relax and enjoy your extra time because tomorrow will be a delayed start! Yup! You heard me, no school until 9:00 a.m. for Elementary schools, 9:50 a.m. for High school and 10:20 a.m. for Middle schools. So do what you want, whether that be sleeping in or eating that delicious breakfast. Above is the weather delay schedule for Smoky.

How the district decides delayed starts and snow days:

“As soon as we receive information that a storm is on the way, we begin monitoring the forecast by the National Weather Service and other meteorological services,” Superintendent Harry Bull said. “We want to make the safest possible decision for our students and staff.”

The procedure for determining whether schools will start on time, be delayed or closed is as follows:

  • The Cherry Creek School District receives ongoing weather forecasts from Accuweather and NOAA
  • Beginning at 3:30 A.M., area drivers report conditions to the transportation director
  • The director contacts neighboring districts to share information and probable recommendations.
  • The superintendent reviews all available information and makes the final decision
  • If the delay or cancellation is to be implemented, families will receive a connected call no later than 6 A.M.
