Clapping, stomping, and cheering, the fans in the nearly packed gym at George Washington high school on September  2015, roared with excitement as Rachel Whipple, the Smoky Hill server launched the ball into the air, causing it to go onto the other side of the net.

The buffs were winning by five points. This is our 7th volleyball game of the year. Towards the middle of the game, the crowd’s mood  got even more ecstatic when Smoky Hill already

managed to gain the total of 25 points while on the other hand George Washington Patriots  had 4. Senior, Rachel Whipple, #16 is a varsity volleyball player who is 17 years old and is from Centennial, Colorado; spiked the ball swiftly over the net not leaving anytime for the Washington Patriots to react. She has been playing volleyball for a little over five and a half  years.  Whipple was encouraged to join a rec center volleyball team by one of her friends who is not on the Smoky Hill volleyball team. In the past years, Whipple has done great on attacking, serving, blocking, digging, ball handling, and serve receiving according to her coach and fellow teammates.

Senior, Vanessa Loznik #8 is another Smoky Hill varsity volleyball player who is 17 years old as well. She has been playing volleyball since she was in middle school.

“Lots and lots of practice, would probably be the one thing I recommend to people who want to become better volleyball players,” Vanessa Loznik said.

According to Loznik, her mom is the main person she draws her inspiration from. After high school, Loznik would like to go to college and continue her path in playing volleyball. The volleyball coach’s name is Mary. Mary is from Granby, Colorado. She played volleyball as a child growing up and after college Mary loved volleyball so much, she decided to become a coach and teach techniques to the youth. She not only coached Smoky Hill high school volleyball, she also coached grandview volleyball and track.
