Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, seniors Frank Thomas, Chloe Andrie, Nikki Sparacio, and Trent Clay all became one step closer to entering college.

Each student signed to a school to play a specific sport. The process was not easy for any of them, but they were are glad to be going to their schools. Thomas is going to Adams State University to play football. “I went through a very long process of weeding out what I liked and what I didn’t out of universities,” Thomas said.

As parents and students gathered in activities, each student sat down and signed their letters making the final commitment to their school. “I signed with Black Hills State University for football. I talked to a lot of schools and [Black Hills] was the right fit,” Clay said.

Athletics director Preston Davis was also extremely proud of all the students of Smoky Hill. “Only champions understand sacrifice. These kids have sacrificed and their families have sacrificed; they sacrifice for the Smoky Hill community,” Davis said.

Andrie, who signed for Western State Colorado University, said she’s going for cross country and track and field. “I had the choice between Adams State, Western State, and [University of Colorado at Colorado Springs]. I chose Western because I love the coaches and the team and I really felt like that’s where I belonged,” Andrie said.
