FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. The club meets every Thurs. morning for first semester, and after that they will meet once a month to prepare for competitions. They meet in room II-109 ”[FBLA] Is a club that is mostly comprised of business and marketing students, but you don’t have to be a business and marketing student to join,” Scott Henry, sponsor of FBLA club, said.

The club lets students get involved by letting them participation in a number of field trips to enhance their business education at Smoky Hill.

“The meetings are at 6:45 in the morning and it does cost money, each field trip costs money, [and] it costs money to be a part of FBLA,” Henry said. One of the field trip options would be the Stock Market Challenge. Students participating in the event do have to pay, but only for their bus ticket.

“We head down to DU( Denver University)  for a day and they simulate 60 days of what a stock would do in real life. Each minute that we are there represents one day. Students receive fake money and purchase stocks for fictitious companies and they go through the up and downs of what the stock market would,” said Henry.

The club offers many opportunities for students. ”It gives the kids more of a real world, hands on experience,” said Henry. “The competitions they attend, they can kind of see what other marketing students are doing at other schools. They can see some different ways of bringing what we learn into some real life situations, and they have an opportunity to show off  what they learn in class.”
