Smoky Hill’s 2016 Fall Craft Fair

The 2016 Craft Fair was held this past Saturday and it was packed to the fullest.

With the craft fair taking place, every single parking space in both, the teachers and student lots, the whole activities hall, the upper and middle part of the cafeteria, and the whole West and East gym were filled up to the absolute maximum. Considering there were 78 booths in the East gym, 71 in the West gym, 24 in the cafeteria, and a packed activities hall, it felt like it was passing period with twice the people, a less amount of space, and lasted for seven hours.

Senior Vanessa Rivera, who has been volunteering at the craft fair for all four of her years at Smoky, has made a big impact on the whole event just like many others have as well. Rivera was there from dawn till dusk helping local community members show off their nifty crafts. The set up time alone took from 6:20-9:00 a.m. Although she could have spent her entire Saturday anywhere else, she chose to spend it helping the community while still having a good time because that’s what she loves to do. “I love to see the creativity here every year, I love to volunteer, and most of all i love to see how much Smoky helps out with the whole event considering it is very community based,” Rivera said.

Each booth is required to pay a fee in order to be there, but that fee goes right back into Smoky Hill, which allows us to pay for supplies, dances, equipment, etc. The booths also make money from whatever they are able to sell during the day. The craft fair is most certainly a very family friendly, fun event that every Smoky student should attend at some point throughout their time as a Buffalo.
