Once a month on Tuesdays, the Smoky Hill High School Drama Club meets in the Auditorium to discuss their next play, schedule rehearsals, board nominations, drama awards, and so much more.

Students from Smoky Hill have had the ability to be apart of the different aspects of Drama Club for over a decade. As it is perceived that drama consists of acting. Director of the Drama Club, Mr. Brown, has opened the doors to students to allow them to get involved in acting behind the stage.

“I’ve been in Drama Club since freshman year,” sophomore Athena Robles said. “I like Drama Club because it helps me meet other people and do activities with the members that are supportive.”

A few of the teaching aspects throughout the Drama Club include; advanced acting and directing,( which will allow students to examine world theatre from a global view, including performance) history, analysis and criticism. Beginning acting for theater and film allows students to learn the art of acting by covering improvisation, audition techniques, scene study, characterization, and a basic history of theatre and film. Another aspect is intermediate acting for theatre and film which allows students to build on the art of acting by expanding acting skills on stage and in front of the camera.

“Acting, and being in the Drama Club as a whole, helps me express myself and gain comfort in front of cameras as well as large audiences,” Robles said.

SHHS Drama Club will be going to New York City March 26 – April 30. The group will be staying in the centre of Broadway. Alongside the NYC trip, auditions for One Acts will be held March 15 – 17. One Acts are student-directed short plays which will be performed in the Cafeteria on April 20, and 21.                                        Drama
