Parent Teacher Conferences Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Mar. 22, in the East and West gyms from 4-7:30 p.m.

A parent-teacher conference is a short meeting or conference between the parents and teachers of students to discuss their child(ren’s) academic progress at school. Parents and teachers may discuss report cards, test and quiz scores, and student’s overall participation and behavior in class.

“The benefits of parent teacher conferences are that the parents get to know what their child is doing and they then understand how they as parents can help their child improve in those areas,” sophomore Abigail Shimelis said.

According to hfrp.org, “research shows that family engagement improves school readiness, student achievement, and social skills. Family engagement takes the committed actions of both families and schools working together—through parent–teacher conferences as well as other forms of engagement—to support student success. Through this shared responsibility, schools reach out to engage families in meaningful ways, and, similarly, families do their part to actively support their children’s learning and development”.

“The negatives of parent teacher conferences is that some kids have really bad teachers that put in anything that might affect their grade, causing students to get in trouble for it,” Shimelis said.
