Latino World Alliance meets every Thursday in room II- 307. This club is open to all ages of students at Smoky Hill. There is a total of 45 students already that participate in the club and the activities that the club holds. The club is just begging to start planning and getting into some of the clubs community service and other activities that the club will be participating in.

Right now the club is working on a project for the Homecoming parade next week on Thru, Oct, 9. Latino World Alliance is also doing events that students can be a part of like Extreme Fest and is working on some other upcoming event that students can participate in to help the school out or help themselves earn some community service hours.

One upcoming event that the club is focusing on is the Colfax Community Network. Students that are apart of the program come to Smoky Hill every six weeks (which meet on Fridays after school) for monitoring from the Latino Leader’s club participants. This giving the club participants community service hours.

The students that are apart of the program get to play games along with being monitored by the club participants and participate in different activities that the club offers at the events. The students also have reading sessions where the mentors read to them and do activities afterwards with the students.

There are also other events that the club wants to be apart of but has not talked about or planned to do this far into the year yet. There is also other community service plans that the club had planned to do later in the year.

“I let the leaders run the show and I sit back and let them do it.” Sponsor Sonja Walker said.
